Aerial view of a red-brick church with towers amid dense terraced houses, roads and parked cars, beside a mostly empty plaza.

From the outside, it may look as though not much has changed, but these are exciting times for the Emmanuel Church building and the Plungington Community Land Trust (PCLT ), leading the developments with 123 Accommodation.

  • The PCLT is working closely with 123 Accommodation, our development partners who will undertake the conversion works.

  • A detailed condition survey and cost analysis has been developed to demonstrate what works are needed to deliver the aim of converting the church into flats for affordable  housing and a community space.

  • A renewed development plan has been created, increasing the number of flats to 21 to deliver a financially viable project.

  • A renewed planning application is to be submitted imminently.

  • Plans are underway to preserve the heritage and historic features for future generations

  • A bat survey is underway to make sure the welfare of these important creatures is safeguarded if any are present!

  • The PCLT and 123 have already raised substantial amounts of funding to ensure the works are undertaken at an affordable cost to be repaid from rental incomes in the future.

  • We have the support of the City Council who have been actively involved in the planning process.

  • The PCLT will be responsible for raising funding for the development of the community space and are working actively with Plungington Community Centre to ensure that we respond to the most urgent local needs.

THIS IS YOUR CHANCE TO GET INVOLVED: The PCLT is seeking new community members to join our Board. No experience is necessary, and meetings are typically an hour once a fortnight at Plungington Community Centre.
